Niagara community members and newly arrived immigrants recently gathered at Brock University to celebrate the region’s diversity through sport.
The annual Newcomer and Community Basketball Game, held May 14 in the University’s Bob Davis Gymnasium, brought together newcomers, student-athletes, staff, faculty and community leaders for an afternoon of friendly competition and connection.
The event was hosted by Brock and long-standing community partner Bridges Niagara, formerly known as the Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2019 as part of a shared commitment to improve the well-being of newcomers to Canada.
