Renowned scholars, researchers and community advocates will come together at Brock University next month for a three-day forum seeking to create a safer, more inclusive society.
The Symposium on Antisemitism: Advancing Knowledge, Informing Responses, Uniting Efforts runs from Monday, May 5 to Wednesday, May 7 at Brock’s Pond Inlet and Goodman Atrium. Organized in collaboration with Brock University and supported by the Office of the Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning, the symposium will feature cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research and collaborative discussions.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for members of the Brock community to engage with people who have given deep thought to questions of contemporary and historical antisemitism, and I expect many lively and engaged discussions,” says Associate Professor of Sociology and Symposium Co-chair Jonah Butovsky.
Symposium Co-chair and Psychology PhD student Perla Matusof (BA ’22, MA ’24) adds organizers are “humbled by the international recognition the symposium has received.”
“Our vision in bringing this symposium to Brock was rooted in a desire to create a more informed and inclusive campus environment, particularly by addressing antisemitism, a form of racism that has too often been left out of equity, diversity and inclusion conversations,” she says. “This event aims to fill that gap by presenting cutting-edge interdisciplinary scholarship on antisemitism, fostering dialogue and equipping the academic community with tools to identify and address anti-Jewish prejudice, especially as it manifests in public discourse.”
Keynote presenters include Peter Suedfeld, Holocaust survivor and Dean and Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia; David Hirsh, Academic Director of the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism; and Charles A. Small, Founding Director and President of the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy. Other experts from across North America and Europe will also host panels, critical discussions and networking sessions.
The full program is available to preview on the symposium website. Advance registration is required for all attendees by Monday, April 28, including those planing to attend only select sessions, who must register using this form.
Parking is included with conference registration. Thanks to the support of generous donors, the symposium is free for any Brock students, staff and faculty who do not already have access to professional development funds. For more information, contact [email protected]
