Brock community invited to shape research plan

Faculty, postdoctoral scholars, librarians, staff and students can share their perspectives on the University’s research strategic direction, including key areas of focus, thanks to a new Research Enterprise survey.

Acting Vice-President, Research Michelle McGinn encourages everyone to complete the Brock Research Plan Survey, which will run until Tuesday, April 15.

“We’re home to world-class scholars whose research has an impact on all areas of society,” she says. “This survey is part of a process where we are articulating a distinctive research identity that builds on our existing strengths, reputation and supports for teaching and learning.”

Participants will be asked to identify broad areas or themes spanning disciplines across campus.

Information gathered from the survey will be used to inform updates to the Research Plan referred to in Transforming people, reimagining the future, Brock’s Institutional Strategic Plan for 2025-2030.

The “Shape Tomorrow Through Research, Discovery and Knowledge” section of the Institutional Strategic Plan highlights the intersection of Brock’s Research and Academic Plans and Brock’s commitment to identify, celebrate and become known for its key areas of research and academic distinction.

McGinn says a clear research identity in Canada’s university landscape will solidify the University’s research reputation in the wider community and strengthen Brock’s ability to attract students, faculty and funding.

“Each and every Brock researcher contributes to new knowledge that, in turn, advances society in so many ways,” she says. “We all collectively benefit from a strong research reputation.”

The Research Plan will also help guide the Research Enterprise on actions to best support scholars at Brock.

The Research Enterprise consists of the Office of the Vice-President Research, Office of Research Services, Office of Research Ethics, Animal Care Services and the Brock LINC.
