Orientation, leadership programs set employees up for success

From their first day on the job to taking their next steps toward career success, Brock employees have a range of opportunities to grow and succeed at the University.

Brock’s New Employee Orientation (NEO) program helps new faculty and staff find their way at the University while its robust lineup of leadership development programs offer employees structured pathways for professional advancement.

“The New Hire Orientation sessions and the leadership programs reflect our commitment to fostering an inclusive campus that attracts and retains top talent,” said Stevey Hildebrand, Manager, Talent Acquisition and People Development. “We provide opportunities for connection and professional growth in alignment with the Strategic Plan.”

Run four times a year, the NEO program introduces new hires to policies and procedures and immerses them in the University’s rich culture and values.

More than 25 new Brock employees participated in the latest NEO session on Tuesday, Jan. 7., where they connected with colleagues across departments, learned about Brock’s history and engaged directly with senior leadership.

Participants also gain insights into available resources and services to ensure they are equipped for long-term success. From building community connections to understanding the broader institutional mission, the NEO program helps new employees feel like integral parts of Brock from the first day.

Employees looking to level up in their career journeys can apply for one of Brock’s Leadership Development programs by Thursday, Feb. 6.

The Emerging Leaders program focuses on developing leadership potential among staff and faculty members. It helps participants assess personal strengths, improve communication and conflict resolution skills while creating actionable development plans. Emphasizing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), the program equips future leaders with tools to foster belonging and collaboration within teams.

Meanwhile, Leading at Brock caters to professional employees already in management roles. This program sharpens strategic thinking, emotional intelligence and coaching skills to empower managers to align team performance with institutional goals while maintaining an inclusive workplace culture.

Brock’s leadership development framework doesn’t stop with individual growth — it aims to inspire a ripple effect, enhancing team performance and strengthening the University as a whole, said Learning and Development Specialist Samantha Vandermolen.

“From refining emotional intelligence to navigating change, these programs provide participants with the skills to lead with purpose and confidence,” she said. “Graduates emerge not just as managers but as mentors and visionaries prepared to guide their teams through evolving challenges.”
