While commercializing emerging technology can give companies a competitive advantage, these shifts can have harmful impacts on society.
Gina Colarelli O’Connor, Professor of Management and Fischer Family Term Chair in Healthcare Management at Babson College, will explore the implementation of the business-focused Responsible Commercialization Framework to address potential unintended consequences during the next Goodman Luncheon Speaker Series on Friday, Jan. 31.
O’Connor is an expert in the fields of breakthrough innovation, corporate entrepreneurship and new market creation. She has published papers in numerous journals, including Innovation and Management Review, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research as well as the Journal of Engineering and Technology Management.
Prior to her current position at Babson college, she held various positions at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, including Professor of Marketing and Innovation Management, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of Radical Innovation Research Program.
During her career, she has served as Associate Editor for the Journal of Product Innovation Management and as a committee member of the Product Development and Management Association. In 2019 O’Connor joined the Lazaridis Institute at Wilfrid Laurier University as a Visiting Chair. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, an MBA in Finance from Saint Louis University and a PhD in Marketing, Corporate Strategy from New York University.
O’Connor’s talk, “Just Because We Can, Should We? Building a Responsible Commercialization Capability for Emerging Technologies,” takes place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Sankey Chamber.
The Luncheon Speaker Series provides Goodman faculty, staff and students with an informal opportunity to discuss recent advances in research, teaching and practices with business colleagues.
