Brock Badgers to host national university lacrosse championship

The Brock Badgers are hosting the prestigious Baggataway Cup in St. Catharines this fall.

The 2024 Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) Championships will feature top-tier Canadian university lacrosse teams, with the Badgers will be competing for their 20th championship title.

This year’s tournament, which takes place from Friday, Nov. 1 to Sunday, Nov. 3 at Kiwanis Field, marks Brock’s return as host for the first time since 2016. Tickets and passes for the event are now available online.

“We’re thrilled to host the 2024 CUFLA Baggataway Cup Championship. It’s an incredible honour and a great opportunity for our team to compete in St. Catharines,” said Brock men’s lacrosse Head Coach Vince Longboat. “We’re looking forward to welcoming the best teams in the league and showcasing the high level of lacrosse talent here.”

The tournament will kick off with the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 1 followed by the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 2 and the final game on Sunday, Nov. 3.

A unique highlight of this year’s Baggataway Cup is the introduction of the inaugural CUFLA Rookie Star Game. This special event will feature the league’s rising stars, with first-year student-athletes selected by their coaches to compete in what promises to be a showcase of future lacrosse talent.

The game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. and will be streamed live for fans nationwide.

In addition to the excitement on the field, CUFLA is extending a warm invitation to all league alumni to join in the festivities.

With a rich 39-year history, CUFLA has seen thousands of players pass through its ranks since its inception in 1985. To celebrate this legacy, a dedicated alumni tent will be set up at the Baggataway Cup, offering former players the chance to reconnect, share stories and pictures, and contribute to the ongoing growth of the sport.

“Hosting the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association Championships with Brock University is a great opportunity to showcase our sport’s talent and dedication” said CUFLA Commissioner, Scott Fox. “Brock has a rich history in lacrosse and an excellent track record of organizing events. This year’s championships will be a memorable experience for all teams and fans.”
