Emergency response nursing simulation to take place Tuesday

Brock University Nursing students will experience what it is like to respond to an unforeseen disaster next week during a mass casualty simulation.

Taking place Tuesday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. outside of East Academic buildings, the “code orange” disaster training exercise will have 29 students from the Bachelor of Nursing/Master of Nursing (BN/MN) program respond to a fictitious scenario in which an explosion takes place in a hospital parking lot and six people get injured.

The sounds of explosions, fire and sirens projected through speakers will prompt students to exit the side door of East Academic Building 3 and enter the alleyway between buildings 2 and 3 to participate in the simulation.

During the exercise, students will be dressed in personal protective equipment to assess mannequin patients and faculty members playing the role of patients.

Caution tape will be placed in between the two buildings and signs on each end of the alleyway will indicate there is emergency response training taking place. The simulation is not expected to interfere with traffic.
