Ron Davis crowned Brock’s 2024 Iron Chef

The battle for kitchen dominance returned to Fresh Food Company DeCew on Tuesday, March 26 with Brock Dining Services’ second annual Iron Chef competition.

The event drew a hungry crowd to the dining hall as students, staff and faculty were invited to taste two new dishes and vote for their favourite.

This year’s competition featured a familiar Brock Dining Services faces with Chef Angelo Melchiorre squaring off against Chef Ron Davis.

Melchiorre prepared a slow-braised beef birria taco with tomatillo sauce, cilantro chili crema, pineapple salsa and roasted corn and black bean salad. Davis presented a Rocky Mountain buffalo chicken slider with a macaroni and cheese fritter and candied bacon.

More than 300 diners voted for their favourite dish through Instagram. While both dishes received rave reviews, Davis secured the Iron Chef title.

“Events like Iron Chef are a great way to engage with the Brock community at a time when students and faculty are preparing for final exams and the end of term,” says Executive Chef Nicholas Paulino. “Many of our students know Chef Ron and Chef Angelo, so it was fun to see them in a little friendly competition.”
