Brock to switch off lights for Earth Hour

Brock University will join a global community on a mission to raise awareness and conserve energy by switching off its lights off for Earth Hour on Saturday, March 23.

Students, staff and community members are encouraged to turn the lights off from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. and join participants in more than 190 countries and territories by spending 60 minutes doing something positive for the planet.

Created in 2007 by the World Wildlife Fund to promote the fight against climate change, Earth Hour is an important reminder that a few conscious changes can have a big impact.

To help promote a greener planet, Brock will turn off lights in the following areas:

  • Lights illuminating the bronze statue of Major-General Sir Isaac Brock in front of Schmon Tower as well as the Schmon Tower Library floors and ribbon lighting.
  • The Roy and Lois Cairns Health and Bioscience Research Complex will be turning off all non-emergency lighting where it is safe to do so. Lighting will be manually turned off in all labs that are able to participate as well as the pendant lighting at the building’s east end.
  • The Central Utilities Building will have building lighting reduced to a minimum.
