Events across campus to give students warm January welcome

New students and returning Badgers will be welcomed to campus with an array of events set to usher in the Winter Term.

International students beginning their time at Brock are invited to the New International Student Orientation Welcome on Sunday, Jan. 7. The full day of activities is designed to connect students with their peers and Brock staff, and to help them become familiar with their new surroundings.

From Monday, Jan. 8 to Friday, Jan. 12, a week of orientation activities will be organized by the University’s Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) and will feature a chance to meet therapy dogs, a virtual health plan information session and an event to meet the GSA executive team. There will also be a Winter Welcome Warm-Up for new incoming graduate students, where free hot chocolate will be shared alongside information about life as a graduate student at Brock.

GSA President Rakha Zabin hopes the activities provide a warm welcome during a chilly time of year.

“Celebrating the start of the Winter Term can be a great way to bring positive energy to the beginning of a new academic session,” she said.

The following week, from Monday, Jan. 15 to Friday, Jan. 19, the Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU), Student Life and Success and partners from across campus will begin Frost Week activities for all Brock students.

Events will kick off with ice skating at Canada Games Park, where students can take to the ice as well as enjoy free snacks and hot chocolate. The week will also feature a clubs fair, the BIPOC Community Social, a free hot breakfast, and a student engagement fair offering students a series of activities and opportunities to connect with resources across campus.

Tanya Bradley, Brock’s Manager, Student Leadership and Engagement, said there will something for everyone as they begin the new term.

“Frost Week not only welcomes new students to Brock’s campus for the first time. It also provides exciting events and experiences for all students to reconnect to one another and our campus community.”

A full list of Frost Week events can be found on the Frost Week ExperienceBU page, while GSA events can be found on the association’s What’s Happening Page and Brock International events can be found on the Brock International ExperienceBU page.
