A swell of support for Brock University’s student-athletes saw $95,000 raised during the 20th annual President’s Golf Classic on Monday, May 29.
More than 140 golfers took part in the annual classic, held at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club, which raises money to support Brock Sports and its student-athletes.
“This tournament means a great deal to the Brock community and provides critical support for our student-athletes, who put so much into both their academic studies and their athletic pursuits,” said Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg.
Rankin Construction was the presenting sponsor for the sixth consecutive tournament.
The President’s Golf Classic has raised more than $1.2 million throughout its history.
The event was founded by former Brock President David Atkinson and the late David S. Howes to support student-athletes and amplify their commitment on and off the field.
They felt easing their financial considerations would dramatically help them reach their goals.
Aleiah Torres of the Brock women’s volleyball team spoke about the impact financial aid has had on her journey in pursuit of a Medical Sciences degree.
“Being here today means so much to me because myself and my fellow student-athletes can pursue an education thanks to this event,” said Torres, a U SPORTS All-Canadian. “The Brock community has provided me many opportunities to thrive and develop into the person I am today. I am forever appreciative of the people that have helped me achieve all my accolades and given me the resources to succeed.”
