Quigley Cup Women’s Volleyball Championships: What you need to know

The Brock women’s volleyball team will host the Queen’s Gaels in the Quigley Cup on Saturday, March 11 at Bob Davis Gymnasium. First serve is 6 p.m.

The stage is set for the Brock Badgers to defend their provincial women’s volleyball championship title.

The No. 3 nationally-ranked Badgers will host the 2023 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Quigley Cup versus No. 6 Queen’s Gaels at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, March 11 at 6 p.m.

The winner earns a berth to the U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championships, which take place in British Columbia from March 17 to 19.

Due to the continued temporary suspension of the AudienceView platform, tickets for the Quigley Cup must be purchased in person at the Walker Complex Welcome Desk or over the phone by calling 905-688-5550 x4060.

Purchases can be made beginning Wednesday, March 8 at 9 a.m. Cash, debit and credit transactions are accepted.

The Badgers will have a chance to win their second consecutive title after last season’s historic banner win on home court.

“It means the world to us to reach the finals again, but the job is not done. The drive we have as a unit is unmatched and we’re going to keep pushing until we’re at the very top,” said senior setter Sara Rohr. “The culture we have built has been unlike any other year I’ve been at Brock. It’s a testament to our whole program, including student-athletes, coaches, trainers, therapists and more.”

Brock swept Queen’s in back-to-back meetings earlier this season and haven’t lost to the Gaels since 2018.

The Badgers placed first in the OUA standings with a record of 18-2 and led the conference in every major offensive category: kills per set (12.51), assists per assist (11.90) and points per set (16.5).

Brock overcame the York Lions in the semifinals during a gritty four-set thriller at Bob Davis Gym last weekend. The Badgers opened the post-season with a win over Windsor in the quarter-finals on Feb. 25.

Meanwhile, the Gaels finished seventh during the regular season with a record of 11-9 and swept the second-place Western Mustangs and No. 7-ranked Waterloo Warriors to reach the OUA final.
