The Brock Badgers are returning to nationals.
The Brock women’s volleyball team completed a thrilling 3-2 (24-26, 16-25, 25-23, 27-25, 15-13) comeback victory over Queen’s University to capture its second consecutive Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship, the Quigley Cup, in front of a sold-out crowd at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, March 11.
“It is amazing to win for a second year in a row, even getting to the game for a third year in a row is hard, but we were able to get it done,” said Brock head coach and OUA Coach of the Year Steve Delaney. “Queen’s came out flying, but I think the home crowd helped us and we were able to keep believing. It made the difference.”
The Badgers will now compete against the top teams in Canada at the U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championships in Vancouver, B.C., from Friday, March 17 to Sunday, March 19. Brock has qualified for U SPORTS for three consecutive seasons. Last year, the University placed sixth overall at the championships in Calgary, Alta.
On Tuesday, March 14, Brock Sports is inviting the University community for a ‘wish the team well’ event prior to their departure. The send-off will take place in the Q Lot parking space at the rear of the Walker Sports Complex at 12:15 p.m.
Brock received the No. 2 seed for the upcoming national tournament and will open the quarter-finals against the host school, the University of British Columbia, on Friday, March 17 at 9 p.m. EST.
All games from the eight-team competition will be webcast live on CBC Sports digital platforms and USPORTS.ca
