Schmon Tower lights request form reopens

After a new LED lighting system was installed on Brock University’s iconic Schmon Tower in 2018, the community was able to request custom colour options to mark special events, such as provincial and national days of recognition.

When the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way Brock was operating in March 2020 and fewer people were on campus, that request system was put on pause.

Now, with on-campus classes and activities resuming at the University, the request form for the Tower lights is active once again.

The 48 powerful Philips Color Kinetics LED lights use 10 times less energy than the Tower’s original white ribbon lights and offer a full rainbow of colour options and light show possibilities.

When there isn’t a request to change the colour for a special holiday or initiative, the Tower is flooded on all four sides in Brock red.

Already planned for the next two months are blue and purple lights on Thursday, Oct. 21 for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, orange lights for Halloween on Sunday, Oct. 31, purple lights for National Domestic Violence Month on Monday, Nov. 1 and again on Wednesday, Nov. 17 for National Prematurity Day and blue on Thursday, Nov. 18 for National Children’s Grief Awareness Day.

Interested community members can submit a Brock Tower illumination request online.
