The following is a list of thesis defences taking place virtually from Monday, Feb. 8 to Friday, Feb. 12.

Interdisciplinary Humanities PhD thesis defence

Julia Polyck-O’Neill, a PhD candidate in Interdisciplinary Humanities, will defend her thesis “Rematerializing The Immaterial: A Comparative Study Of Vancouver’s Conceptual Visual Arts And Writing” on Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Brian Roy, Chair; Gregory Betts, Supervisor; Susan Rudy, External Examiner (York University); Neta Gordon, Internal-External Examiner; and Linda Steer, Mathew Martin, and Derek Knight, Advisory Committee Members.

Master of Science thesis defence

Haimeng (Jerry) Tang, a Master of Science candidate in the Centre for Biotechnology, will defend his thesis “Analysis of the effect of genetic heterogeneity on de novo genome assembly using Xylocopa virginica as a model” on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m. in virtual format.

Master of Science thesis defence

Abu Saad, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Computer Science, will defend his thesis “MDP-based Vehicular Network Connectivity Model for VCC Management” on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. in virtual format.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Robson de Grande, Supervisor; Richard W. Pazzi, External Examiner (Ontario Tech University); and Ke Qiu and Michael Winter, Committee Members.

Tyler Crane, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Computer Science, will defend his thesis “Analysis of the Niching Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm” on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 2:30 p.m. in virtual format.
