Workshop series aims to build better research at Brock

Brock University Library and the Office of Research Services (ORS) have teamed up to offer a 10-part series of virtual workshops on a wide variety of research topics.

The “Building Better Research” series covers everything from budgeting grants to managing research data to finding the right journals for publishing scholarly works.

“The Library and ORS are both vested in supporting research on campus and have long worked together to build research capacity across the University, a key component of Brock’s Strategic Plan,” says Nicole Nolan, Associate University Librarian, Research.

The series, which begins Tuesday, Nov. 3, was developed from the results of a survey last year in which researchers expressed the topics they would be most interested in learning more about.

“The series is a pilot to better serve the needs of Brock researchers,” says Sharlee Cranston-Reimer, Research Officer, Internal Awards.

She hopes the workshops will make it easier for researchers to apply for grants, improving grant outcomes, building a culture of research, helping to onboard new researchers and supporting graduate students.

The series is an opportunity for researchers to learn about new initiatives and policies of the Office of Research Services, the Library and of various funders.

“This workshop series is the start of a conversation of how we can best meet researchers’ information needs,” says Nolan. “We will continue to ask for input and listen so that we develop this series and customize it year by year.”
