Lifesize enhances user experience with new virtual whiteboard

Lifesize is updating and expanding its tools to offer an even better video conferencing experience for the Fall Term.

Lifesize, one of Brock’s main resources for connecting with colleagues and virtual teaching and learning, has acquired Kaptivo, a tool that will enhance the collaboration experience on Lifesize.

Kaptivo takes a modern spin on the traditional classroom whiteboard by turning it digital. The virtual whiteboard enables users to brainstorm, teach, communicate, plan and draw as if they were sitting in the same room.

The digital whiteboard application is now available on both the web and desktop app version of Lifesize. Users can begin using the whiteboard by clicking on the ‘Collaboration Tools’ menu button when using Lifesize.

Once the app is open, users can create diagrams, write and draw with the available interactive tools using real-time display. Participants can distinguish between each other by using the intuitive colour-coding labeling. When the meeting is complete, users can download the image of the whiteboard to easily share it amongst the group. Additionally, the whiteboard will automatically save, allowing the group to resume their work when they meet again.

Stay tuned for these upcoming updates to Lifesize available this September and October:

  • Guest users will have access to chat.
  • New layout options — users will be able to pin speakers to a desired area on the screen and customize their own layouts (5×5 option will be available, followed by a 7×7 option).
  • Registered users and guest apps will have a uniform call layout for a more consistent experience across different types of users.
  • Moderator will be able to enable a waiting room after they have joined the meeting.
  • Moderator will be able to search for participants in the meeting rooms.
  • Live-streamed events will support embedding in webpages.
