After participating in seven Canada Games, Steve Sevor (BPhEd ’00, MEd ’04) is looking forward to returning to Brock University. The Orleans, Ont. native was recently named the chef de mission for the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games.

“My passion and fuel for sport was ignited at Brock and I am so excited to return to where it all started,” said Sevor. “Winning the bid for the Niagara region is such a fantastic opportunity for Brock University to display the talents of their athletes, coaches, students and staff. Sevor has participated in both winter and summer editions of the bi-annual event since 2007, serving as mission staff, core team lead, assistant chef de mission and now chef de mission.

Currently working as the manager for the City of Hamilton’s Sport Services, he manages the team in charge of the allocation of sport facilities, implementation of sport development initiatives, execution of special sporting events, operation of three municipal golf courses and is responsible for the food services programs in the City’s arenas.

His focus during this appointment will initially be to build a mission staff team of volunteers that will provide the greatest level of support to Ontario’s competing teams, coaches and managers.

“With the high level of talent in the Niagara region, it will be tough to pick who should serve on the team,” said Sevor. “All eyes will be on us and it will be important to choose the right people to support the team.”

Sevor is ready to lead the team in his own backyard in front of the entire nation.

“I’m looking forward to leaving a lasting legacy in sport development and volunteerism for the community in the years to come,” he said.
