Thesis defences — Sept. 30 to Oct. 4

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place at Brock from Monday, Sept. 30 to Friday, Oct. 4.

All are open for the University community to attend.

Master of Social Justice and Equity thesis defence

Brittany Campbell, a Master of Social Justice and Equity candidate, will defend the thesis “Protecting Animals and People: The Role of the Public Sector in Improving Animal Cruelty Investigation Work” Monday, Sept. 30 at 1:00 p.m. in WH 147.

The examination committee includes Dawn Zinga, Chair; Kendra Coulter, Supervisor; Melanie Rock, External Examiner (Associate Professor, Cumming School of Medicine’s Department of Community Health Sciences, University of Calgary); Mary-Beth Raddon, Graduate Program Director; Lauren Corman, Committee Member and Kate Bezanson, Committee Member.

Master of Science thesis defences

Arpi Sen Gupta, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Computer Science, will defend her thesis titled “Objective Reduction in Many-Objective Optimization Problems” on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. in WH 147.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Brian J. Ross, Supervisor; Henryk Fuks, External Examiner (Brock University, Deptartment of Mathematics and Statistics); and Beatrice Ombuki-Berman and Sheridan Houghten, Committee Members.

Richard M. Le Sueur, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Chemistry, will defend his thesis titled “Synthesis and Investigation of Light Responsive Molecules Containing Cyclopropenium Ions” on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. in WH 147.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Travis Dudding, Supervisor; James L. Gleason, the External Examiner (McGill University); and Martin Lemaire and Paul Zelisko, Committee Members.

Paul Michael Pilkington, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Earth Sciences, will defend his thesis titled “The Rise of Green Algae: Using Algal Palynomorphs as Proxies of Natural Events and Anthropogenic Activities” on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. in MC D319.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Francine McCarthy, Supervisor; Laurent de Verteuil, External Examiner (P.Geo CPG, President Mundo Nuevo Limited); and Martin J. Head and Richard Cheel, Committee Members.
