Soup’s on for Brock’s United Way campaign kickoff

Warm up your taste buds for this year’s Souper Star Lunch.

For just $10, faculty, staff and students can contribute to Brock University’s annual campaign kickoff event for United Way while sampling and judging six soups prepared by Sodexo chefs. The soup will be served by Faculty deans, who will compete for the coveted Souper Bowl trophy

The soup-off is set for Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Market Hall. After lunch is served, President Gervan Fearon will announce Brock’s 2019 United Way fundraising goal. Last year, Brock employees donated a record-setting $186,000 to the local chapter of the charity.

New this year is online ticket sales, which is one of several initiatives implemented by Brock’s United Way Committee to help reduce the amount of paper used throughout the campaign. To purchase tickets, visit brocku.universitytickets.com

The day of the event, ticket holders will be asked to provide proof of purchase at check-in by showing their e-ticket via a mobile device. Although not preferred, tickets can also be printed.

After checking in, those attending are welcome to sample each of the soups and cast a vote for their favourite using a ballot given to them at the door.

On display at the event will be this year’s early-bird incentive prize pack: six bottles of wine and wine accessories, such as a corkscrew and stopper. Employees who donate online before Friday, Oct. 4 at noon will be entered in the draw. Online donations toward the United Way campaign will be available soon through Workday.
