New Certificate in Labour Studies offers flexibility for students

Starting this fall, Brock students can earn a Certificate in Labour Studies on campus or online, through full- or part-time study.

The Department of Labour Studies is excited to offer this new way to equip diverse students with a foundational understanding of workplace issues, from workers’ rights and labour relations, to the changing world of work.

“Through our significant social media following and interactions with labour unions, community groups and front-line workers, we have received many requests for online learning opportunities,” explains department Chair Kendra Coulter. “We are thrilled to be able to deliver.”

The online and part-time options available provide certificate students with the flexibility to take courses that reflect or expand on their interests and goals. Those working full-time, living around Ontario or across Canada, and who would otherwise not be able to complete a full degree, can deepen their knowledge and build new skills with a Certificate in Labour Studies.

Brock is committed to expanding the learning opportunities available to different learners, and the Labour Studies Department is seizing this opportunity to reach new students.

“Our department is widely recognized as innovative and dynamic. We have award-winning faculty members with distinct and complementary areas of expertise, and engaging courses, some of which are unique in the world,” says Coulter.

“The certificate makes it possible for many different kinds of people to be able to gain from our strengths and develop their own abilities.”

In addition to its many on-campus courses, the department will offer online options each semester. Courses will also be available during the spring and summer sessions to accommodate year-round learning.

Students can begin a Certificate in Labour Studies during the fall, winter or spring terms. There is no fixed deadline, but prospective students are encouraged to apply at least two months prior to the start of a term. The online option begins in September.

Details on the Certificate in Labour Studies are available online.

Potential students are invited to contact the University’s Recruitment and Liaison team for more information.
