Brock mourns former professor and coach Bill Liddell

A long-time professor of management and international business at Brock University has passed away. Bill Liddell, who started teaching at Brock in 1981, died Wednesday, Feb. 27 in St. Catharines.

Liddell was hired as Professor of Administrative Studies in 1981 and a year later became Chair of the Department of Marketing and Management. He was named Acting Director of what was then known as the School of Administrative Studies in 1984. Liddell also served as Director of Brock’s Centre for Canadian and Asian Pacific Studies.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Liddell taught at Virginia Tech, Kansas State and the College of William and Mary prior to arriving at Brock. He also combined his love of travel with his love of teaching with time in the classroom in China, the former Yugoslavia, India, Pakistan, Australia and the U.K.

As a dedicated youth basketball and baseball coach, he led Sir Winston Churchill to SOSSA basketball championships in 1984 and 1987. During his time at Brock, he was an assistant coach when the Badgers men’s basketball team won a national championship in 1992.

Private family services and a celebration of life will be held in St. Catharines and in Pittsburgh at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Catharines-Thorold and District or a charity of choice.
