Badgers women playing for national curling championship Tuesday morning

The Brock Badgers will be in the national spotlight Tuesday morning when the women’s curling team plays the Laurentian Voyageurs for a gold medal at the 2019 U SPORTS Championships in Fredericton.

The game is set for 11:30 a.m. and will be broadcast live by CBC Sports.

In the first game of round robin play, Brock beat Laurentian 8-3, but the Voyageurs went on to win five of its next six games to advance to the semifinals Monday night.

Brock advanced to the final after a nail-biting win over Queen’s in the semifinal. The Badgers trailed 5-3 after eight ends, but took two in the ninth and stole one in the 10th for the victory.

“The girls worked really hard to accomplish our goals,” Brock Skip Terri Weeks said. “I’m so proud of how much work and resiliency they put into that game. It was really, really tough.”

Earlier in the day, Brock played a must-win final round-robin game, where they beat the defending national champions, University of Alberta, 6-4.

The Brock men’s curling team also competed in the national championships but failed to advance out of the round robin portion of the tournament.
