Awards to honour Brock students’ good deeds in the community

Exceptional Brock students who volunteer their time on and off campus will have their efforts recognized at an upcoming awards night.

The Student Life Engagement Awards will take place Friday, March 22 to commend students for their engagement and involvement in volunteer initiatives as well as other acts of service on campus and around Niagara.

Also in attendance will be community members who partnered with students and, in many cases, nominated them for the awards.

This year’s award nominees participated in a variety of outreach efforts, including 65 Student Life events, the work of two honour societies, the continued commitment of Brock students to being good neighbours and the completion of Brock’s Campus Wide Co-Curriculum program.

Formal awards to be presented recognize extracurricular student activities in a number of categories, including:

  • Community Achievement Award
  • Global Achievement Award
  • Student Life Involvement Award
  • Campus-Wide Co-Curriculum Certificate of Engagement
  • Good Neighbour Awards

Kristen Smith, Brock’s Manager, Student and Community Outreach, said the evening provides a chance for many groups to gather and celebrate.

“We have a number of great students who see a need in our community and respond to it on a daily basis,” she said. “I think the evening provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate them and connect them with other student and community leaders. Having all of those people in one space is a powerful thing and continues to highlight the community engagement that is a pillar of Brock’s mission statement.”

The event is open to all members of the Brock community, and will take place at Pond Inlet. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. before remarks and awards at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

Anyone interested in attending may purchase tickets for $20 on Eventbrite.
