Research Services offering funds for full-year student research jobs

Students in all Brock Faculties now have the chance to work as part-time research assistants year-round thanks to the expansion of a program created by the Office of Research Services.

Recent graduates, full-time undergraduates and, in exceptional cases, incoming undergraduate students can now be hired for a research assistant position under the Match of Minds program.

The program offers faculty or staff members up to $5,000 to hire these students from May 1 to April 30. Funding was previously only offered for the summer months.

Match of Minds is meant to expand students’ potential to participate in research, says Vice-President, Research Tim Kenyon.

“The program also encourages the development of skills and abilities of students that will help them launch careers after graduation, while also improving the quality of Research Assistants available to faculty researchers at the graduate level,” says Kenyon.

This year, the Match of Minds program will help up to 50 qualified students.

The deadline to apply for the program is Tuesday, March 1 at noon. Application forms are available and can be submitted through the Office Of Research Services website.

Please note that students are not eligible to hold both the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) and a Match of Minds award in the same year.

Also, students may not hold a Match of Minds award and participate in a paid co-op position through Brock University at the same time.
