Free STI testing available to Brock community

Brock University is partnering with Niagara Region Public Health to hold a free sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening clinic on campus for all members of the Brock community.

The event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. just behind the Hungry Badger in South Block. Participants will produce confidential urine samples in nearby bathrooms, which will then be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia.

“Unfortunately up to 80 per cent of people who have Chlamydia show no signs or symptoms,” said Brock’s Health Promotion Educator Julie Fennell. “We want to remind students that even though they may feel great, they may still test positive and pass on the infection to others.”

If left untreated, both chlamydia and gonorrhea can have effects on future fertility.

As an added incentive, participants will receive a free slice of pizza.
