NSERC Discovery Grants information session – June 5
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) Discovery program officer Michelle Payne, who works with Evaluation Group 1508 (Mathematics and Statistics), will lead an information session on Tuesday, June 5. Along with one of Brock’s Discovery Grant Evaluation Group members, Payne will discuss what’s new at NSERC, results from the 2018 competition and how to prepare a Discovery Grant application. The session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in Cairns 207. Please register by sending an email to orsadmin@brocku.ca.
Sourcing budgets webinar viewing and discussion series – June 8
The Offices of Research Services and Research Accounting invite the Brock research community to discuss best practices for sourcing funds for project budgets. Participants who RSVP in advance will receive additional information and support to maximize the benefit of their attendance. These sessions will involve watching archived webinars from the Canadian Association of Research Administrators and discussing them from an institutional perspective as well as in relation to individual projects.

NOTE: The second sourcing budgets event, a Tri-council eligible expenses session initially planned for Friday, June 22, has been postponed. It will be rescheduled for a future date, which has not yet been determined. Work is underway to develop a comprehensive workshop with strategies and institutional best practices for sourcing budgets through external grants as well as in-kind/cash contributions. In lieu of the planned session, one-on-one consultations are being offered to those who were planning to attend. If interested, please contact orsadmin@brocku.ca.
SSHRC partnerships virtual workshop – June 18
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) will host a workshop Monday, June 18 to provide an overview of SSHRC’s partnership funding, including Partnership Engage Grants ($7,000 to $25,000), Partnership Development Grants ($75,000 to $200,000) and Partnership Grants (up to $2.5 million), and an opportunity to ask program- and application-related questions. Brock faculty with SSHRC-funded partnerships will share their experiences with partnership development and application preparation. All eligible researchers who are interested in applying for SSHRC partnership funds this year or in coming years are encouraged to attend.
The workshop will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. in Welch Hall 147 or virtually for online attendance.

Research impact webinar viewing and discussion – June 21
The Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA) is holding a webinar for researchers and research facilitators to provide information and answer questions about measuring and communicating research impacts. The Office of Research Services and Brock Library invite the University’s research community to discuss what signifies an academic impact, how to identify these impacts, how to measure them and the best ways to communicate them.
The webinar will be held Thursday, June 21 from noon to 2:30 p.m. in Schmon Tower, Room 107.
