Applications open for Rotary leadership program

Brock students are invited to apply for an intensive leadership training program happening later this spring.

The weeklong Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a personal development seminar for youth ages 19 to 27 that takes place in Fredonia, N.Y., from June 10 to 16.

During the program, participants learn about personal development and co-operation through discussion periods, lectures, recreation and fellowship.

Though there is a cost associated with participating in the conference, it is covered by local Rotary clubs and businesses that select participants based on their demonstrated abilities as leaders.

For third-year Psychology student Celyn Talaue, participating in the program last year was a chance to put her leadership abilities to the test while also meeting new friends.

“It’s great for anyone who wants to develop personally, push their own limitations and expand their network,” she said. “We dove into so many different tasks together that the connections we made in only a week were really strong.”

The opportunity to develop critical leadership skills is one that shouldn’t be passed up, Talaue said.

“It was like a getaway and a learning experience all in one,” she said. “I would encourage anyone to apply.”

Brock students are encouraged to submit their resumé and completed application as soon as possible.
