Ohio State professor to present research on manufacturer-supplier relationship

An Ohio University business professor will present his co-authored research paper at Brock’s Goodman School of Business on Friday, Feb. 9.

Manus (Johnny) Rungtusanatham, a Fisher College of Business Distinguished Professor at Ohio University, will discuss his paper, “Historical supplier performance and strategic relationship dissolution: Unintentional but serous supplier error as a moderator as part of Goodman’s Luncheon Speaker Series.

Rungtusanatham’s research focuses on the strategic relationship between manufacturers and suppliers and what happens when an inadvertent — but significant — mistake happens on the part of the supplier.

The research shows that high performance contributes to a positive manufacturer-supplier relationship. However, when suppliers go “above and beyond,” they may set the manufacturer up for disappointment if they cannot consistently meet the same targets. This could result in business relationships being cut short.

Rungtusanatham’s research study concludes by offering advice for suppliers to manage their manufacturers’ expectations.

In its 12th year, Goodman’s Luncheon Speaker Series provides an informal and engaging opportunity to listen and discuss recent advances in research, teaching and practices with colleagues internationally.

The event is being held in Taro Hall 203 Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Space is limited. Goodman faculty, staff and graduate students are invited to attend. Brock community members wishing to attend can email Jennifer Brisson at jbrisson@brocku.ca to reserve a seat.
