Road around Walker complex to close for paving work

The bumpy drive to the area behind Walker Sports Complex will soon be a thing of the past.

Much-needed road repairs will get started on Monday, July 10 on University Road West and Alphie’s Lane. The major road work will take between four and six weeks and will include a new road surface, improvements to the walkways, entries and loading areas of the Walker complex, and a new area for bike racks.

University Road from just past the entrance of Lot P to Alphie’s Lane will be closed to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Lot P close to Alumni Field will be unaffected, but Lots Q, F and R will be closed. Permit holders for those lots may park in Reserved B, Reserved A or Zone 1 during construction.

As part of the work, Lot C, the small parking area beside David S. Howes Theatre, will also be repaved.

The road construction will mean a route change for the second annual Naomi Cermak Tri to Inspire triathlon on Sunday, July 16.

Brock Sports Fitness Manager Eric Walter said the transition area will now be on Alumni Field, rather than in the area behind the pool, and the run and bike routes will be altered to completely avoid the construction zone.

Any Brock guests who typically use the rear or side doors to access Walker Sports Complex should use the main front entrance to the Walker building through the Art and Val Fleming Commons.

Brock Sports camps won’t be affected by the construction as drop-off and pick-up is now located in Lot P.
