Badger pride expected at several August community events

From fidget spinners to beach balls, Brock’s signature red gear has proven to be a popular addition at many community events this summer — and it looks as though August will be no different.

The University will have volunteers out in full force at several Niagara-area festivals, handing out swag and helping to extend the school’s renowned student and campus experience.

Brock has come on board to sponsor a number of local events in the past few months to continue to grow the University’s involvement in the community.

Badger pride has been on display at Niagara VegFest, the Rankin Cancer Run, Hamilton Fringe Festival, Pelham Summerfest, and last weekend’s Welland Floatfest, among others.

That list will continue to grow later this week as Brock sponsors the St. Catharines Rotary Ribfest in Montebello Park, and Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival in downtown Port Colborne, both from Aug. 4 to 7.

The University, in partnership with the Campus Store, will have a tent in the Ribfest vendor area to let visitors know what Brock has to offer.

At Canal Days, Brock ambassadors will be on scene through a partnership with Student Life and Community Experience handing out various branded goodies.

The fun will continue on Aug. 15 with Brock sponsoring a screening of Toy Story during Moonlight Flicks hosted at the Port Dalhousie Supper Market. Boomer the Badger will be on site to meet with families and hand out Brock swag.

Country music fans will not want to miss the University’s sponsorship of the Sunset Music Series on Aug. 29, when Wendy Lynn Snider will take over Charles Daley Park in Jordan.

Brock’s reach will extend beyond Niagara during Fan Expo at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3.

The summer of events will conclude with Brock’s biggest celebration of the year — Homecoming weekend Sept. 15-17, where everyone is invited to join Brock students, alumni, faculty and staff in marking the start of another academic year.

The weekend festivities will include the popular Steel Blade Classic hockey game and Homecoming Tailgate Party on Friday, Sept. 15, with a family fun zone, face painting and children’s area.

The University is proud to return as a sponsor of this year’s Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, hosting Brock Day in the Park on Saturday, Sept. 16. Badger pride will also be prominent at the festival’s Grande Parade and the following celebration with ambassadors handing out swag at Montebello Park on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The St. Catharines Terry Fox Run will also be held at Brock University this year on Sunday, Sept. 17.
