Student Staff Network aims to build connections on campus

Brock Student Life and Community Experience is looking to make networking on campus a little easier for student staff members working throughout the summer.

“With most people gone for the summer, it’s not always easy for students to stay involved or engaged on campus,” said Sarah Salt, Student Life Events and Programs Assistant.

“We created the Brock Summer Student Staff Network as an opportunity for summer staff to get together, attend events or even just eat lunch at the Farmers Market as a group.”

Since its inception in 2015 by a former staff member, Student Life has seen the impact those connections can have on both current and prospective students.

“During the first summer, we were able to connect around 15 to 20 student staff members from the Smart Start team, the students’ union and Student Life for a great collaborative effort in transitioning new students to campus during the Smart Start and LEAP programs,” Salt said.

“We formed strong friendships with each other, but, more importantly, with the incoming students; friendships that we still nurture today.”

The network’s summer calendar is quickly filling with events and activities, including trips to SkyZone trampoline park, the Port Dalhousie Supper Market and some of Niagara’s many wineries. The group is also putting together a beach volleyball team.

“The idea is to do things that are low cost, easy to access and that help create a social environment so we can all enjoy a great summer in Niagara,” Salt said.
