Buildings in the St. Catharines campuses of Brock University will be impacted by an upcoming planned power shutdown, which will also affect the Brock website and email.
From 9 p.m. Friday, May 12 until 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, the following buildings will be closed and without power as a result of maintenance work being conducted by Facilities Management and Information Technology Services:
- Marilyn I. Walker School of Performing Arts downtown
- All Blocks of Mackenzie Chown
- Inniskillin Hall
- Taro Hall
- Student Centre
- Plaza
- Cairns Complex (no power interruption but will be closed due to ITS work)
- Earp Residence
For emergency-only access to any of the affected areas, please contact Campus Security at x3200 to make arrangements. All doors will be locked and swipe card access will be unavailable during these times.
To protect equipment, make sure computers, printers and other devices are powered off prior to leaving for the weekend on Friday, May 12. In all affected areas, faculty and staff are reminded to clean out fridges and remove anything that is at risk of spoilage.
The rest of the University’s main and east buildings, along with the Hamilton campus, will have power and will operate on normal schedules.
ITS Shutdown
As part of Information Technology Services maintenance, networks will start being powered down at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12 and will be back up once power is restored to Mackenzie Chown after 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 13.
This year’s ITS shutdown will impact all Brock University sites, not just the buildings included in the annual power shutdown listed above. As a result all ITS services on and off campus will be unavailable including but not limited to:
- All Brock University websites
- Sending and Receiving email
- Office365
- SharePoint including OneBrock
- Isaak/Sakai
- Workday
- Brock Card
- Wired and Wi-Fi network access
- Logging into computers
- File access
- Printing
Phones will be unaffected except for Cairns Complex and Plaza Building, which will not be operational and the buildings will be closed. Emergency phones will not be impacted.
In the unlikely event that power cannot be restored to these areas by 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, information will be shared via Brock’s social media channels and on the Brock homepage once it becomes available. Every effort will be made to communicate this information by 9 a.m.
Any questions or concerns should be forwarded as soon as possible to:
