New logo for Brock University Students’ Union

It’s bold, brand new and all about the Badger.

The Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) has ushered in a new era with a re-branding of its logo.

The previous logo had represented the students’ union for nearly two decades, being used through dozens of student representatives, volunteers, events and projects.

However, outgoing BUSU president Patrick Foster knew it was time for a change.

“The previous logo didn’t quite capture what the students’ union is about or what it represents. Students didn’t know what it stood for,” Foster said.

Foster and BUSU graphic designer Christian Austin Ross, examined more than 50 artistic renderings since February before finally landing on the chosen logo.

“We wanted the new logo to embrace the kind of spirit you see all around campus — from O-Week to Homecoming to representing the students — and we felt that going with the Badger was the best fit,” said Foster.

The new logo takes a minimalistic approach to the Brock Badger, set against a plain background. It ensures the Badger is always front and centre.

“We looked at other Badger mascots in North America and made sure ours was not only unique, but that it was also the best one there is,” Foster said.

“BUSU is beyond excited about the new brand logo. We believe it reflects so much of our student body: vibrant, strong, sharp and classy,” said Curtis Gadula, Director of Student Life and Communications for the students’ union.

The rebrand was Foster’s final project as BUSU president, and in reflecting what the last year has brought him, he couldn’t be happier with the way it all turned out.

“I don’t think I’ll ever know the true impact this year has had on my life,” he said.

“It’s obviously made me grow and change as a person, and I know that through hard work and collaboration, anything’s possible. I’m very conscious of all the blessings in my life.”
