Students get A-Team experience at Goodman

It’s an inside look at what Brock’s Goodman School of Business has to offer.

Held in combination with Brock’s Open House, 49 Goodman applicants and their families were given the A-Team experience on Sunday, April 2, where they got an inside look into the benefits of a Goodman business or accounting degree.

Hosted by the Goodman School of Business Student Engagement Office in partnership with the Goodman Student Ambassador Association, the annual event gives participants the chance to interact with faculty, staff, students and alumni and included a mock lecture delivered by Barry Wright, Goodman’s Interim Dean.

This was Lauren Battel’s second time attending the event, only this time, she was on the inside looking out.

Battel, who attended A-Team last year as a future student, looked out from the stage to the more than 130 people in attendance as she shared with them her experience as a first year student.

The business administration dual degree student chose Brock after attending last year’s A-Team, which helped her solidify her top school, a decision she says is the best she’s made.

Hailing from London, Ont., Battel selected Brock for its mid-size student population and the wealth of experiential opportunities.

“One of the important things for me when choosing universities last year was that Brock is not too small that you’re missing out on opportunities, but not too big they don’t know who you are and I thought the personalized experience really helped me,” she said.

Battel, who will complete the second half of her degree at Dublin City University as part of Goodman’s unique BBA Dual Degree program, chose the program for the international exposure it would afford her.

After having had an all-star first year at Goodman, Battel had much to share with future students as they sat where she had sat last year.

“I wanted to share with them how much I love Brock,” Battel said.

In the past year, Battel took full advantage of Smart Start and LEAP programming and got involved with Brock Leaders Citizenship Society and Goodman DECA, experiences she says have been invaluable.

She traces her high level of engagement back to last year’s A-Team event where she got to know current students and made a connection to the school.

“I really love the A-Team experience,” she said.

“After A-Team last year, both my mom and I felt better about me being here and staying in residence. We learned so much about all the resources and support systems that were available to me as a Goodman student.”
