Peruvian history lecture and exhibit underway

A lecture featuring professors from the departments of Modern Languages and Women and Gender Studies will examine Indigenous Peruvian history, scholarship and society.

The two-part session Wednesday, March 8 at 2 p.m. is co-sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the James A. Gibson Library. It will commemorate the 400th anniversary of the publication of the Historia general del Perú by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

Professor Felipe Ruan, Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, will present Inca Garcilaso de la Vega: The Indigenous Mother and Indigenous Knowledge.

Professor Ana Isla, Women and Gender Studies, will present Community Among Indigenous Peruvians: From Garcilaso de la Vega to the Guardians of the Conga Lagoons.

The lectures will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Thistle 253 – the Library E-Classroom. Refreshments will be served.

An accompanying exhibit on the life and works of Gacilaso de la Vega is on display on the main floor of the Library until March 13.
