PODCAST: Alumna Claire McCarthy talks BBA Dual Degree on Conversations with Goodman

This week on Conversations with Goodman, host Susan LeBlanc talks to Claire McCarthy (BBA Dual Degree ’16) about the uniqueness of the dual degree program and how it helped her land a full-time job at Anheuser-Busch.

The BBA Dual Degree program offers students a choice of three tracks – NEOMA Business School in France, EBS Business School in Germany or DCU Business School in Ireland – and allows them to spend part of their four to 4.5 years of study at Brock’s Goodman School of Business and at the partner school. The co-op only program is one of its kind in Canada.

“When I got accepted, I knew 100% that it was what I wanted to do,” McCarthy says.

McCarthy, who completed the second half of her program at EBS Business School in Germany, graduated from Brock last month and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, an international academic honours society, on the same day.

McCarthy was very involved in student life at Goodman in her first two years by competing in various business case competitions and getting involved with the Goodman Business Students’ Association (BSA).

On her graduation day, McCarthy reflects on the two different student experiences at EBS and Goodman.

“It’s very unique to learn from a different style of teaching because every country has its unique student experience so it was wonderful to have my rich experience at Brock and also at EBS to learn things in a different way and from a different perspective which was huge for my personal and professional development,” says McCarthy.

McCarthy completed co-op work terms at EMCO Corporation and Anheuser-Busch before going on to accept a full-time position with Anheuser-Busch as a rewards specialist.

“When I was interviewing, the program is the first thing they talk about. It’s such a conversation starter. It’s so unique and I think it makes me unique,” she said.

This podcast is the latest in the Conversations with Goodman series which is produced by the Goodman Marketing, Communications and Alumni Relations team and features guests from the Goodman community.
