Brock women’s hockey donates $1,100 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

They pink’ed the rink and the result was a large donation for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Brock Badgers women’s hockey team raised $1,100 for the foundation through its Pink in the Rink hockey game Saturday night at Seymour-Hannah Sports Complex. With hundreds of fans in the stands, the Badgers hockey team wore pink jerseys in their game against the Nipissing Lakers. Robyn Kennedy, from the CBCF, took part in the ceremonial face-off.

“The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation was thrilled to be a part of an all-around winning day of hockey alongside the Brock women’s hockey team for their ‘Pink in the Rink’ game,” Kennedy said. “A big congratulations and heartfelt thank you to the whole team for the integral funds raised for the cause, and for the enthusiastic welcome on game-day.”

The Badgers, who won the game 3-1. were thrilled to be a part of such an important cause.

“As a member of the Brock women’s hockey team, and someone whose family has personally encountered the devastating effects of breast cancer, it was truly inspiring to see so much enthusiasm and generosity in support of finding a cure,” said Badgers assistant captain Alex Finlayson. “It’s amazing to see what we can accomplish when we come together as a community, and we look forward to taking part in future fundraising initiatives.”

Many hours went into preparing for the event.

“Pink in the Rink was a great opportunity for us to showcase the Brock women’s hockey program, and to bring the entire Badgers community together for a good cause like the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation,” said student Game Day Manager Matt Price. “A big thank you to everyone involved, and to those who showed their support.”
