Student wins PC nomination in Niagara West-Glanbrook

A 19-year-old Brock University student won the Progressive Conservatives nomination to become the party’s candidate in Niagara West-Glanbrook during a meeting Saturday night.

Sam Oosterhoff, a first-year political science student, will be the candidate in a Nov. 17 byelection in the riding left vacant when former party leader Tim Hudak resigned last month.

Oosterhoff was up against party president and former MP Rick Dykstra, as well as regional councillor Tony Quirk and NewsNow publisher Mike Williscraft in seeking the nomination.

According to his website, Oosterhoff has worked within the conservative movement as an activist and on campaigns. He has also worked as a legislative assistant and policy analyst on Parliament Hill for the federal Conservatives, his website says.
