Smoke forces evacuation of International Centre

Classes and all other activities in the Brock University International Centre are cancelled until 4 p.m. Thursday after the fire department responded to a call for smoke in the building.

Campus security said there was no actual fire, but that a computer battery backup unit failed resulting in smoke pouring into the building’s third floor.

The International Centre was evacuated and will remained closed until the late afternoon to allow for ventilation. Classes after 4 p.m. that are scheduled to take place on the first floor are expected to move forward as planned.

Updates will be posted as they become available.
