PODCAST: From BBA to CPA on Conversations with Goodman

This week’s Conversations with Goodman podcast guest is Christian Guirguis (BBA ‘14) who talks to host Susan LeBlanc about his experience at the Goodman School of Business and his pathway to the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

A graduate of Goodman’s business administration (BBA) program, Guirguis is following perhaps a non-traditional pathway to the CPA designation, but one that he’s happy to take to obtain a varied experience that will lead to a strong foundation for his career.

As a student, Guirguis gained relevant experience through various positions at Research in Motion, Metrolinx and RBC in areas such as operations management, pricing strategy, internal audit and project management.

“I thankfully graduated with a pretty friendly resume and also got involved in extracurriculars that exposed me to some networks that ultimately helped me landing my full-time offer at KPMG,” Guirguis says.

He is currently on a campus recruitment secondment at KPMG, putting him on the other side of the interviewing table as he connects with current university students at different points of their job search processes.

After graduating from the BBA program with some credits to use towards the CPA designation, Guirguis is focusing on finishing up his academic studies with CPA’s Professional Education Program while working full-time.

He stays connected to the University and was on campus recently to help judge a student competition.

When it comes to his advice for students, it’s all about a positive attitude and open mind for him.

“Do things because you think it’s the right thing to do and don’t ever say no to an opportunity. Don’t do things just because you want to get something out of it,” says Guirguis.

This podcast is the latest in the Conversations with Goodman series which is produced by the Goodman Marketing, Communications and Alumni Relations team and features guests from the Goodman community.
