Matt Clare named Apereo Fellow

Matt Clare, Manager of e-Learning at Brock University’s Centre for Pedagogical Innovation, was named an Apereo Fellow at the Apereo Annual Conference held in New York City last month.

The Apereo Foundation provides a framework for academic communities to work together to sustain open source software supporting the delivery of teaching and learning.

As the chair of the Apereo Accessibility Working Group, Clare has been an avid contributor to removing barriers for all learners online. This work included a fundraising initiative to commission a professional review of Sakai and certifications of its accessibility that raised US$61,000.

His work has helped to ensure Brock’s learning management system, Sakai, upholds high standards of accessibility.

Through open collaboration, this same work will also benefit other intuitions using Sakai, like Western, Oxford, NYU and The University of Cape Town to name a few.

Clare was one of five international fellows named. For more information visit https://www.apereo.org/groups/2016-apereo-fellows
