Plenty of workshops planned for Wellness Day on June 16

This year marks the 17th annual Employee Wellness Day, being held at Brock University June 16.

It is a day where 600-800 employees engage in wellness-related workshops geared toward achieving wellness in one or more of the following eight areas: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, occupational and financial.

Approximately 80 different workshops will be offered this year in one of four workshop time slots. Employees pre-register for the sessions and move around the University throughout the day, attending their workshops.

The day starts with an opening plenary by Neil Lumsden, Director, Athletics and Recreation Services for all staff to attend, includes lunch and ends with closing remarks from President Jack Lightstone and a bike raffle, donated from Greenshield, our Extended Health Benefits Provider.

Senior management, staff and local businesses donate items for a penny sale raffle. The proceeds of the penny sale are given to a student(s) in the form of a non-endowed scholarship award based on the student’s contribution to wellness within their own community. To contribute a prize for the sale, contact Bailey Seward at bseward@brocku.ca

Many workshops have been confirmed and Health Management is sending out information on Twitter and Facebook to provide employees with a sneak peek at what workshops will be offered this year.

Registration will open on May 24 at noon and will close on June 6 at 4:30 p.m. The brochure will be published in advance of the May 24. Click here for the electronic version. Paper registration forms will only be accepted for those without daily access to a computer.

This year’s sponsors for Wellness Day include:

• Ontario Teacher’s Insurance Plan (OTIP), the University’s LTD Provider.

• Grand & Toy, Office Supplier.

• Greenshield has donated the bike for the raffle during the closing ceremony.
