OPG warning about dangers of Twelve Mile Creek

With the main Brock University campus sitting in close proximity to the Ontario Power Generation’s DeCew generating stations, the utility is reminding everyone to be mindful of the surrounding dangers.

OPG has four small dams along Twelve Mile Creek designed to control water flow and minimize erosion. Although they may appear to be small and not dangerous, water flowing over the dams re-circulates backwards and can trap objects against the downstream side of the dam.

If a person is caught in this strong re-circulating current, it may result in drowning.

Signs are installed along the banks of the Twelve Mile Creek to identify the locations of the dams and their hazards.

Because of the danger, OPG recommends no recreational activity on the Twelve Mile Creek including boating or swimming anywhere upstream of the QEW Martindale Bridge.

All warning signs, fences, buoys, booms and barriers have been put in place for the protection of everyone and should be obeyed.
