Safe material handling training available online

Brock University’s Health, Safety and Wellness office within Human Resources has added a training module on Safe Material Handling on the online Sakai Learning Management System.

This training was developed to provide general information to assist employees recognize circumstances where injuries can occur from handling objects at work. This training will also provide information on safe material handling strategies employees can incorporate into work tasks to prevent injuries by avoiding potential risks.

Who needs to be informed and instructed in Safe Material Handling?

Employees who routinely perform manual material handling tasks in their work. Manual material handling means moving or handling things by lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, holding or restraining.

Where is this training offered?

E-learning is available at all times for employees via the Sakai learning management system. Click here for the online learning management login page.

Supervisors who wish to arrange classroom-type training for groups of employees should contact the Health, Safety and Wellness department at besafe@brocku.ca

Should I get my approval from my supervisor before taking this training?

Yes. Employees should consult their supervisor before taking this training.

How often should training take place?

Training frequency should be determined by an employee’s supervisor. Employees should consult with their supervisor on how often training should be completed.

How much time does it take to complete the training?

Typically, the training takes 20-25 minutes to complete (that includes taking the quiz).
