Second talk in social justice speaker series taking place March 21

Brock University’s Social Justice Research Institute’s speaker series continues March 21 at 5 p.m. with visiting Fulbright Scholar Babette Boyd.

Her talk is titled The Racial Contexts of Sexual Assault. She will discuss that in addition to myths that disadvantage all female victims of sexual violence, there are some myths that serve to particularly disadvantage black and indigenous women.

This lecture will discuss how these myths developed and have been historically propagated and how they serve to build a shield around offenders while simultaneously preventing black and indigenous victims from receiving the full protection of the law and of society.

Registration is encouraged by emailing sjri@brocku.ca but drop ins are welcome. The talk is being held in Taro Hall Rm 203.
