Brock University’s turf field is beginning to take shape.
Just over two weeks after the official groundbreaking, the initial stage of construction is nearly complete with a layer of grass and top soil being removed by a bulldozer and excavator.
Next, contractor The Davan Group will start grading the surface, and then a concrete curb will be installed to anchor the turf.
Once that’s done, drainage pipes and a water storage system designed to handle a ‘100-year-storm’ will be installed below the surface. They’ll be covered with crushed stone that will help with more drainage and serve as a base for the turf.

The final step in the construction will be the actual artificial turf being rolled out and laid down.
The new $1.5 million turf field, which replaces the old lacrosse field just south of the tennis courts near Brock’s Walker Complex, is being funded through the Brock University Students’ Union and a donation from an anonymous Brock alumnus.
The target opening date is September 19.
