Nov 28 event will be a discussion on ‘blackfacing’

The Brock community is invited to attend an event and discussion this Friday Nov 28 about why “blackfacing” is offensive. It is part of a discussion that has been taking place on campus following an incident last month at a Halloween costume party.

Friday’s event starts at 5 pm and takes place in AS 201.

Speakers will include Tamari Kitossa, an associate professor from the Sociology department, as well as a Skype conversation with Ismaël Traoré. There will also be an open discussion with students.

The event is supported by a number of Brock units and organizations including the Roots: African Caribbean Society, Student Justice Centre, Brock Office of Human Rights and Equity Services, Brock OPIRG, the Department of Sociology, the Department of Labour Studies, the Social Justice Research Institute and CUPE 4207.
