Hichem Ben-El-Mechaiekh presented a talk entitled Approximations of Set-Valued Maps and Topological Fixed Point Theorems at the Analysis, Topology and Applications 2014 Conference in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia, May 26-29, 2014. He also presented a conference on recent developments in fixed point theory for set-valued maps at the Seminaire d’Analyse Nonlineaire et de Geometrie at the Faculte des Sciences de Tunis on May 13, 2014.

Bryan Butryn and Shari Sekel from the Goodman School of Business graduate programs office presented “The Six Month Orientation: Why, Who and How to Start” at the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals, San Diego, Calif. on May 3, 2014.

Associate Professor Lydia Chen gave two oral presentations as part of the Chemical Education Division meeting and ended up being asked by the division’s president (Geoff Rayner-Canham) if she would join the division’s executive – which she accepted. As well, she was contacted by the editor of Canadian Chemical News (ACCN) and informed that her chemistry outreach program (that was the basis for her second presentation) “Harry Potter-Science and Magic” will be included in the July/August issue.

Professor and CRC Professor Tomas Hudlicky gave the R.U. Lemieux Award Lecture titled “Recent Advances in Process Development for Opiate-derived Pharmaceutical Agents and Progress in Total Synthesis of Morphine.

Chemistry alumnus Paul Ragogna (BSc ’00), who is an Associate Professor at Western University, gave the Strem Chemicals Award for Pure or Applied Inorganic Chemistry Lecture titled “Fun with main Group Chemistry: From Fundamental Discoveries to Interesting Applications”.

Brock Geography graduate and undergraduate students presented their research projects at the annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG). The CAG was held in conjunction with Congress at Brock University in late May. Presentations given by the students can be viewed here.
