The Humanities Research Institute is providing a portal into all it does with its fall term symposium on Thursday.

Called From Ports to Portals, the symposium on Dec. 13 is a showcase of research and creative activities by Humanities faculty, with presentations divided between two sessions that include a question and discussion period.

New this year, the symposium will also include a presentation by a graduate student.

Portable ports in ancient Greece, migrant workers, and digital resources and university libraries are just some of the topics on the symposium bill.

Not only does the event offer a glimpse of humanities research to the rest of the University community, it provides a venue for presenters to glean feedback and new perspective on their work so far.

“The HRI Symposium is a wonderful intellectual forum in which faculty members and graduate students take the time to listen to one another and to engage their colleagues’ latest transhumanities research, scholarship, and creative productions,” Humanities Dean Douglas Kneale said. “It’s an integral part of the research culture of our Faculty.”

The Humanities Research Institute was founded in 2001 to support, encourage and promote research and the creative enterprise of Humanities faculty.

From Ports to Portals runs from 9 a.m. to noon in the Charles A. Sankey Chamber. The event is free and open to all.
